Cebu Congressman Raymond Democrito Mendoza visited Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC) and Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) in Rio Tuba, Palawan on September 14, 2019 for benchmarking.
During his visit, the Cebuano legislator expressed amazement on how the two companies operate.
“We would like to look at it so we could also tell the world na ito yung practice. Importante talaga yung industriya and the Philippine Chamber of Mines… So we’re in good hands,” he said in an interview with The Bataraza Chronickel.
Rep. Mendoza was with Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) President Michael Democrito C. Mendoza, and TUCP Consultants Mr. Cecilio Seno, Jr. and Mr. Gerard Seno during the visit.
The congressman and his companions were toured in CBNC Plant Site and at the rehabilitated CBNC Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) 1. Cong. Mendoza was also qouted saying “The industry which was ‘really dead’ before is now vibrant and is doing something for the economy.”
“Kung meron kayong concerns that need to be legislated sa Congress or kailangan ninyo, (if) you want to lean on us, no problem, that’s why we’re here and (why we) like to listen to you.”
Mendoza served as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Assistant Secretary from 2001 to 2006 under DENR Secretaries Heherson Alvarez, Elisea Gozun and Mike Defensor.
