Biodiversity Preservation

Coral Bay Nickel Corporation implements biodiversity enhancement programs to improve not only its surrounding environment but also the other areas within the province of Palawan by forging partnerships with various community sectors, industry colleagues, and government agencies.

On March 15, 2022, the company entered into an agreement with the municipal government of Bataraza, Palawan for the implementation of the Integrated Coastal Resource Management Program (ICRM) to promote the sustainable management of marine resources. This initiative involved the local coastal community volunteers who went through a planning workshop and eventually deputized as fish wardens.

Regular tree and mangrove planting activities were also conducted within and beyond the vicinity of the municipality of Bataraza where CBNC is located. This is participated by employees, community members, and other stakeholders. To ensure the sustainability of this endeavor, CBNC maintains several nurseries where plant seedlings and mangrove propagules are produced.

The Monitoring Team (MMT) led by the Mines and Geoscience Bureau and Environmental Management Bureau of DENR, together with the local government units, people’s organizations, and other stakeholders, conduct quarterly site inspection to verify the company’s environmental performance and improvements.
