Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC) is hailed as ASEAN’s finest topping Best in Practices in Sustainable Mineral Development at an awarding ceremony held on December 13, 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand.

CBNC, one of the world’s largest producers of nickel and cobalt mixed sulphide, landed in the ASEAN Mineral Awards (AMA) arena for the first time for Best Practices in Sustainable Mineral Development on the Metallic and Mineral Processing Category.

“We are both happy and humbled by this award…” said President Masahiro Kamiya during the ceremony.

The AMA is a biennial award established to honor ASEAN mining companies which have made outstanding contributions towards the promotion of environmentally and socially sustainable minerals development in the ASEAN region. From three categories in 2017, there are now six categories this year: metallic mineral mining; metallic mineral processing; and metallic mineral distribution and three similar categories for non-metallic operations.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau of MIMAROPA, as regulating body, expressed its pride for the award bagged by CBNC. “It is indeed an honor for the MIMAROPA Region, and of course for the country, to host this company who never fails to set the bar when it comes to showcasing the best that the minerals industry can offer,” Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) MIMAROPA Regional Director Roland de Jesus said in a statement.

“We hope that this award will inspire CBNC, as well as other companies to do more not just for the environment, but most importantly, for the welfare of their host communities,” he added.

The next awarding is slated in 2021 in Brunei.
