The Medical-Surgical Mission is a yearly initiative of Coral Bay Nickel Corporation in partnership with RTNMC as part of the two company's Corporate Social Responsiblity (CSR). The program started way back in 1991 and continues to help indigent residents across the province of Palawan up to this day by providing free surgical operations in both minor and major categories.
2018 marks the 27th year of the mission which already benefitted over 50,000 patients of various ages. Volunteer doctors were tapped to conduct the surgeries while assistance from the provincial and barangay health officials were also requested. The local police, military and barangay tanods on the other hand rendered their support to maintain peace and order.
The 2018 Medical-Surgical Mission was held from February 6 to 8 at RTNFI Hospital. This 3-day activity served 184 patients in total.
To ensure that even those in far-flung areas were served, patient mapping and pre-screening were held. In support for the total recovery of the patients, post-operation monitoring were conducted and free medicines were also provided. Patients with various surgical cases were admitted and operated including those with goiter, hernia, enlarged tonsils, abdominal mass and cataract extraction. Meanwhile, 35 patients received dental services.
